We've all run across them, either at work or among family, friends, or other acquaintances - the dreaded non-stop talker. My father in law was one of the best any son in law one could hope for, but i always thought that if no one was around to talk to he would talk to a brick wall. So what happens when one of your customers has this trait, how do you stop a normal sales call or sales presentation from turning into a 30 minute or more monologue? There was a recent article that describes how a simple question can work wonders with the getting the sale back on track.
The article provides certain tips on the question, such as it must be very polite (obviously) and describes some of the reasons asking a question can be a valuable sales tool. A carefully used question will not only stop the monologue, but also direct the conversation back to the reason for the sales call or presentation in the first place. Have you used any other techniques in a similar situation? The second paragraph of the article brought up one more question that I had to research, does turkey really make you sleepy?
