Last Tuesday, prior to the beginning of the MLB League Championship Series, we posted a quotation by Calvin Coolige on persistence and featured the logos of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers. Tomorrow the two teams begin the World Series.
As an independent retailer, you face challenges every day. Often your competitors are mega companies with thousands of employees and gigantic ad budgets. Keep this in mind. Ten teams in Major League Baseball had larger payrolls this year than the Cardinals. Thirteen had larger payrolls than the Tigers. The New York Yankees, who lost in the first round, had a payroll that was $23,000,000 more than St. Louis and Detroit combined!
What all it comes down to is this. Who has the greatest desire to win?
