We continued our car shopping this weekend. While we are no closer to making a
choice, I did notice that all car salesmen have one thing in common - - - They
will try very hard to get you to test drive the vehicle. Well, there now
appears to be scientific evidence as to why this is a good idea, not only for
cars but for vacuums and sewing machines as well. (See

Many
of our customers have good success using the “courtesy loaner program” for
vacuums or offering free in-home trials for sewing machines. According to the
article, everyone should be working hard to get customers to touch the
merchandise.
Of course, if you want someone to try out your product, you have to make it convenient for them to do so. One car dealer claimed the his small SUV drove just like a sports car and was sure I would find it by far better than all competitive models once I drove it. He said if I wanted to drive it he would have to find someone to go get one from the back lot. That was all the excuse I needed to tell him that we didn’t have time and so we left. I wonder if it really does drive better?”
